RMA Track Days June Newsletter
Just a week after our first Premier Event at Brands Hatch which was poorly supported but enjoyed by everyone who attended, we experienced some of the worst driving seen for a long time by a relatively small number of participants at the Silverstone GP event on 2nd June. Whilst all the RMA team along with the guys in Race Control do their upmost to police on track behaviour, with a circuit of almost four miles in length we have to rely largely on feedback from those actually out there. Unfortunately, a lot of drivers are reluctant to report offenders which makes our job very much more difficult and can potentially spoil the day for others, to those people we would say please let us know if you feel another participant is being overly aggressive, we promise you it will be sorted.
That apart, if you want a day with limited traffic, only experienced drivers and no race cars testing join us at Brands Hatch on the 19th July for our next Premier Event, it’s not inexpensive, but it is what you need to pay for a quality day and in reality a tiny percentage of what is the cost of running a decent car on track for a day.
25th July Nurburgring Nordschleife
Shortly after Brands Hatch, we are off to Germany for a partner event at the awesome Nordschleife where there is 12.9 MILES OF THE BEST TARMAC IN THE WORLD! Remember, the event is only open to road cars on road tyres. If you don’t want to run your own car there, drive out in something comfortable, or fly to Frankfurt and pick up a daily rental car then hire one of Jaco’s BMW’s for the Ring. His cars are properly set up and absolutely perfect for the Ring. Leyton lapped in 8.43 in a recent RCN race in Jaco’s 325i which gained him a pot and counted towards the permit now necessary to compete in the 24hr race.
5th-6th September Spa Francorchamps
Please note this event is already approaching capacity. We had to turn a number of people away from from our two days in May, if you want to join us don’t leave it too long. It is also worth mentioning that the Hotel del la Source, which is where we carry out registration and drivers briefings and where RMA customers receive a concessionary rate, usually reaches capacity before we do, so if you are joining us and want to stay there we would recommend making a reservation as soon as possible.
Congratulations to Leyton and Simon
Everyone on our mailing list would have received notification from our Chief Instructor of a last minute opportunity to partner him in a Ferrari 458 Challenge Car for a three hour race at Donington last weekend. First of several to respond was Simon Atkinson, who did an amazing job despite never having driven the car until he arrived at Donington for the thirty minutes free practice just before qualifying. Between them, they put the car on Pole in its class and went on to secure first in Class and second overall only being beaten by an Audi R8GT3 which was about three seconds a lap quicker, the only way they would beaten that would have been if it had broken down! Well done guys, and well done to the FF Corse team for such a superb job and biggest thanks of all to Graham Lucking for the car.
Hamilton’s Join RMA at Silverstone
Okay it wasn’t Lewis but it was great to see brother Nick and father Anthony at Silverstone, apparently the day was an early birthday present from Nick, speaking with Anthony at the end of the day we wouldn’t be surprised if we see him out with us again, he certainly seemed to enjoy himself despite some of the bad driving that was going on around him.
